Tyra Sweet is a Toronto-based Writer, Producer, Director, and Kids TV Host whose career has been defined by a deep commitment to creating content that genuinely speaks to children — not at them.
Best known as a host on YTV's The Zone, Tyra spent over two years as a daily presence in the lives of kids across Canada, cultivating the kind of relational warmth and consistency that became the hallmark of everything she's done since. She went on to host Kid Food Nation for Corus Entertainment and has written over 35 episodes of children's live-action and animated television for some of the industry's most respected broadcasters, including AppleTV, CBC Kids, TVO Kids, and Family Jr. Two of those scripts earned her Canadian Screen Award nominations for Best Writing in the Preschool category in 2023 and 2024.
Most recently, Tyra directed on the second season of The Fabulous Show with Fay & Fluffy (Family Jr.) and served as an associate producer on Hulu's Davey & Jonesie's Locker. She has also worked as a Creative Consultant and Producer with Sago Mini, engaging children on set through a play-based, child-centred lens. A graduate of The Second City Sketch Conservatory and the BIPOC TV & Film Kids TV Writing Bootcamp, Tyra brings both comedic craft and intentional storytelling to every project she touches.
Off screen, Tyra is a current Child and Youth Care student at Toronto Metropolitan University and the 2025 recipient of the CYC Nancy C. Sprott Award, a recognition of her advocacy for young people and her commitment to equitable, relational care. She approaches both her creative and caregiving work with the same belief: that children deserve to feel seen, heard, and empowered to express themselves fully.
